OPPORTUNITIES

Smaller class and team sizes allow students to engage more in Christ-centered activities throughout the school. We aim to help students recognize their worth through their individual talents given by God. At NMCS, there are diverse options for everyone, including elective classes, art, music, service projects, chapels, and retreats.

Music and Art

NMCS provides a range of music classes and performance chances. Elementary students attend a weekly general music class to explore songs, instruments, and singing skills. They also get to perform in concerts throughout the year.

Middle and high school students can join the concert band or choir. Both groups perform for the community in annual concerts. The choir also participates in competitions and festivals in the county. Art classes are also offered to all grades.

Athletics

Athletic activities at NMCS begin in 3rd grade, with youth basketball leagues and skills clinics offered year-round.

NMCS is part of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA), the Highland Conference, and the Northern Michigan Soccer League (NMSL). Starting in 6th grade, students can compete in middle school sports.

At both middle and high school levels, NMCS offers teams for cross country, track and field, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and golf.

Sports are an extension of classroom learning, focusing on our Comet Commitment: pursuing excellence through faith, building a healthy culture and competition, and fostering community spirit.

Elective Classes

NMCS aims to provide students with fresh educational experiences. Elective classes during regular semesters and J-term include subjects like publications, photography, literature, pottery, theater, drones, technology, communications, home economics, scrapbooking, and more. All topics are taught from a Biblical perspective.

Chapel

Every week, students and staff gather for chapel to listen to teachings from local pastors, community members, and staff. The emphasis is on Biblical truth and worship through song.

Field Trips

Throughout the year, students go on various trips to expand their worldview. Retreats include skiing, ice skating, tubing, bowling, and team-building activities, all with a spiritual focus. Field trips take students to local rivers, lakes, farms, museums, and other educational sites.

Service Projects

Each spring, juniors students participate in a mission trip to the Dominican Republic, providing spiritual, physical, and financial support to those in need. Local service projects also occur throughout the year, and high school students must complete volunteer work to graduate.

During Flourish week, students serve the school and community. The aim of the week is to uplift spirits by helping others and embodying the message of Jesus Christ through their actions.
