Arrowsmith

The Arrowsmith Program is founded on neuroscience research and over 30 years of experience demonstrating that it is possible for students to strengthen the weak cognitive capacities underlying their learning dysfunctions through a program of specific cognitive exercises.   NMCS is one of only a few schools in the nation to offer this groundbreaking program.  Parents are encouraged to call  now to learn more.  Learn how the Arrowsmith Program is helping students to change their brains.

NMC is one of now 32 schools in the United States to offer the Arrowsmith Program for students with learning disabilities.  The program is designed to strengthen weak cognitive areas of the brain that are the underlying cause of many learning disabilities to help students become effective, confident and self-directed learners.  It is based on the science of neuroplasticity - the ability of the brain to change.

A typical candidate for the program is a student of average or above intelligence who struggles academically due to a learning disability in reading, writing, math, comprehension, logical reasoning, executive function, visual memory, auditory memory, dyslexia, non-verbal learning, auditory processing or attention.  Each student's program is based on a careful assessment to identify that individual's specific learning difficulties. Students who have severe intellectual, cognitive, emotional or behavioral disorders, or acquired brain injury or autism spectrum disorders are not appropriate candidates.

Students enrolled in the program spend at least half of their school day working on an individualized program of cognitive exercises designed to target specific areas of the brain and strengthen learning capacities.   Upon completion of the program most students are transitioned back into the regular classroom with little or no further accommodations.

Our program has been of benefit for students having difficulty with reading, writing and mathematics, comprehension, logical reasoning, problem solving, visual and auditory memory, non-verbal learning, attention, processing speed and dyslexia. The Arrowsmith Program at Northern Michigan Christian School is not limited to K-12 students.  If you are an adult interested in strengthening your own cognitive functions, contact us today about enrolling for the upcoming school-year.
